Defying Limits

Our Partner, Prashant Tidke, has not only excelled in the world of finance but has also showcased his remarkable athletic prowess in the gruelling Deccan Cliffhanger race in 2014. Defying all odds, Prashant, fondly referred to as PT, emerged as a true champion by conquering the challenging 640 km cycling race from Pune to Goa and securing the first position in the 50+ years age category. PT’s extraordinary journey is a testament to his unwavering determination, mental strength, and sheer willpower, highlighting his multifaceted capabilities.

From the very beginning, PT demonstrated his relentless pursuit of excellence. Balancing a demanding career as a Chartered Accountant, he dedicated himself to the sport of cycling, rapidly progressing and achieving remarkable milestones. PT’s background as a long-distance runner provided a solid foundation for his endurance and athletic abilities, making him a force to be reckoned with in the cycling arena.

Despite his accomplishments, PT faced a significant setback leading up to the Deccan Cliffhanger race. A fall from Sinhagad resulted in the breaking of his 3rd and 4th ribs, causing doubt about his participation in the race. Many believed his dreams were shattered. However, PT refused to be deterred. Seeking medical advice, he received clearance to compete, even though he endured excruciating pain throughout the race.

On the day of the race, it was evident that PT was facing an uphill battle. Overtaken by fellow riders in the initial kilometres, PT remained undeterred, confidently stating that he would catch up on the challenging Pasarni climb in Mahabaleshwar. True to his word, PT unleashed his full potential, leaving everyone in awe as he conquered the arduous ascent with his signature “high gear” hammering style.

Throughout the race, PT encountered numerous physical and mental obstacles. However, he never allowed them to dampen his spirits. Despite the constant pain from his broken ribs, PT pressed on, strategically stopping for nutrition, rest, and medical attention whenever necessary. Each setback only fueled his determination, propelling him forward and inspiring those around him.

As night fell, PT continued to push himself, maintaining an impressive pace despite his injuries. The roads of Karnataka presented breathtaking scenery but posed their own challenges. PT’s resolute willpower remained unshaken, even as he battled extreme acidity and nausea induced by painkillers.

The final stretch into Goa was both exhilarating and demanding. Summoning every ounce of strength he had left, PT overtook fellow riders, captivating everyone with his tenacity. Crossing the finish line was a moment of pure triumph and jubilation. PT’s victory in the 50+ years age category not only showcased his perseverance but also served as an inspiration for individuals of all ages, encouraging them to pursue their passions relentlessly.

Prashant Tidke’s extraordinary journey in the Deccan Cliffhanger race stands as a testament to the power of the human spirit. His determination, combined with his physical and mental strength, has etched his name in the annals of cycling history. PT’s triumph serves as a reminder that age is not a limitation when it comes to achieving greatness, inspiring generations to defy limits and pursue the extraordinary.
